Custom orthotics are shoe inserts which are made specifically to fit your feet and treat a specific foot condition. Orthotics can be used to treat many different painful foot conditions such as flat feet, heel spurs, neuromas, or other foot pain. Orthotics work by correcting abnormal or irregular walking patterns by slightly changing the angles by which the foot strikes the ground when walking. Since the Temecula orthotics are prescribed specifically for you, they will not help anyone else solve their particular foot problem. Your custom orthotics will be made to precisely match the contours of your feet, and are designed to work with your feet and the way you move. In order to prescribe these custom orthotics, our foot doctor will conduct a complete evaluation of your feet, ankles, and legs. This way the custom orthotic will be sure to correctly accommodate your own foot structure and problem. Functional orthotics are made to control abnormal motion when you walk. They can help ease problems such as shin splints or tendinitis. They are usually made of a material that is semi-rigid such as a plastic. Accommodative orthotics are softer and are used to provide additional cushioning and support. They may be used when the patient has a diabetic foot ulcer, calluses on the bottom of the feet, or other painful foot conditions. Prescription orthotics are made to last for many years, and will do so as long as they are properly cared for. Oftentimes insurance will also help cover the cost of your prescription orthotics.
